UNDER DEVELOPMENT
In this section we will break down the key areas required to do well on LBRY as a content creator. What works and what doesn’t. How to make a channel that can get in to the top 200 and higher.
Aesthetics
Aesthetics is the modus operandi – the main driving force behind all good content. You need to take this seriously if you want to do well on any platform. If your content doesn’t look attractive, your click-through rate (CTR) on all impressions will suffer greatly, whether that’s on LBRY, social media or on search engines. Think of your content as a person going on a date. You want to impress and woo your date so that they will really like you and want to see you again.
Aesthetics Drill Down
Aesthetics, or esthetics, is a branch of philosophy that deals with the nature of beauty and taste, as well as the philosophy of art (its own area of philosophy that comes out of aesthetics). It examines subjective and sensori-emotional values, or sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste.
Aesthetics covers both natural and artificial sources of aesthetic experience and judgment. It considers what happens in our minds when we engage with aesthetic objects or environments such as in viewing visual art, listening to music, reading poetry, experiencing a play, exploring nature, and so on.
How to be Aesthetic
Some people have a natural talent for creating esthetically pleasing content, but not all of us do. But this doesn’t mean you can’t. There are various steps you can take to increase the chances that your content has enough aesthetics to improve your CTR and goals. Here are some of those steps.
Find Inspiration
To get a good understand on what work, look at some top YouTubers. Part of the reason they’ve done so well is their ability to make their projects look professional and pleasing to watch. One of the best examples of someone doing this almost perfectly is Dave Lee, aka Dave 2D.
In his YouTube videos he uses visually stunning thumbnails with additional text to make the viewer curious about his content, in addition to this, he uses a similar method in his titles, which stokes ones curiosity even further. This is a great method for making your audience feel compelled to watch your content, because it looks trustworthy, professional and interesting.
For a more scientific understanding of how this works, this amazing video by Derek Muller aka Veritasium who is a top LBRY user and friends with LBRYnomics very own Brendon Brewer. They did their PhDs together.
Get Feedback
Feedback is critical if you want to do well in any area, and this is especially true in design. What you think works is often very different to what actually works. Your project isn’t meant to appeal to you, it’s mean to appeal to your audience, so ask them for their opinion.
However, this isn’t always as easy at it seems. How you ask for feedback can be the difference between success and failure. For example asking leading questions such as, “this looks really good doesn’t it?” is more often than not, going to result in someone telling you what you want to hear, rather than what is true, rendering the feedback pointless.
Also take into account who you are asking. Family members and close friends will often try to keep you happy by telling you what they think you want to hear.
When asking for feedback it is crucial that you set the stage first. Tell them that it’s very important that they be totally honest. Tell them you need them to be honest even if it’s not good feedback to help you improve. This way, the likelihood that the feedback is honest is greatly increased.
Observe, Learn and Adapt
How well are your aesthetics skills working? This is where A/B testing and analytics really help. Using A/B testing, you’d make variations of your thumbnails and titles and publish both. Then based on the results you observe of each version after x amount of days you can see which version performed best then using your analytics. Learning from your data, you can start getting a general idea of what works for you so you can adapt and become more successful.
Brand Yourself
Branding is very important to help people recognise you and see you as something that is worth following. It gives people a sense of trust in your content and makes it easy for people to recognises you. Branding and aesthetics go hand in hand, so make sure you apply good aesthetics to your branding for maximum effect.
Branding Drill Down
Branding is not just about being recognised, it also helps give you direction so you can turn your work in to a workable product. Branding doesn;t have to be complex and done by professionals, although that helps, just some simple home made branding will help you beat your competitors and make sure you reach a bigger audience.
Branding Creates Trust and Confidence
When someone sees a brand, they automatically assign it a level of trust and tend to have more confidence in what you offer. When people trust something, they are more likely to view and sign up for your brand. It’s a win win strategy for any budding content creator to maximise their views and returning viewers.
Branding Creates Recognition
Having a brand means that people can recognise you when you post new content, helping you attracted more views when you publish your content. One of the most important ways to get recognized when you brand is by having a good logo along with a good brand name. People like to associate themselves with brands to say something about themselves, which is the cherry on the cake if you do a good job.
